Republic Wine Castle

Johnson City, Texas 1 visit · 4 photos

A medieval castle on the 290 Wine Trail where you can taste Texas wine and design your own cowboy boots in the same afternoon.

Yes, there is a castle on 290. It started life as the 290 Wine Castle at Chateau de Chasse; this year Houston’s Republic Boot Co. bought the whole eleven acres and turned it into something stranger and better — Texas wine poured in the turrets, third-generation bootmakers taking custom orders in the same building, a hat bar, and lodging going in on the grounds.

The only place we know of where you can get measured for a pair of boots and work through a tasting flight at the same time. Go for the novelty, stay because the wine is good and the view off the hill is better. Say hello to the red dragon on your way in.
